God & Lessons in a Toothache

Jesus said, “If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him” (John 14:7-ESV).

Lessons In A Toothache

Is God real? While walking one wintry windless day, I took note that the sky was brilliant blue with large clouds floating overhead. Suddenly, it dawned upon me that it was not a windy day, and there was no evidence of wind movement, yet the clouds were moving. We know that clouds move at the will of the wind. It reminded me of a discussion I one heard. A mother was speaking to her son who told her did not believe in God because he could not see God. If he could not see God, could not touch God how then can he believe that God exist. His mother exhausted her theological arguments from every angle possible to help her son determine that God does exist.

Clouds Move By Winds We Do Not See
Clouds Move By Winds We Do Not See

The matter remained heavy in her heart, and she prayed to God to help her help her son. One day he came to his mother complaining of a very severe toothache. She looked in his mouth but could not see a tooth which had a cavity. Nothing about the situation showed any evidence that he should have been experiencing any pain. Her son assured her that his tooth did hurt. Although she could not see or touch his pain, he was in pain.

Real Is Not Always Tangible

She said “son although I do not see any evidence of your pain, I cannot touch it or feel it. But you feel the pain and sense its effects upon your body. I do not. But because you tell me that you are in pain, I must believe what you said is true and act on what I heard. Although I cannot touch your pain or feel your pain, I must have faith; believe with confidence that what your pain is real. In a way it is the same in coming to understand that although you do not see God or do not feel God, or cannot touch God; that does not mean that God does not exist.

He Had a Toothache But His Mom Could Not See It
He Had a Toothache But His Mom Could Not See It

There are things in life that you are not, able to touch and feel but that does not mean it does not exist. Real is not always tangible. The Mother asked, do you believe that I love you? How do you know that my love for you is true? You do not see it, cannot touch it, cannot hear it, cannot smell it, and cannot taste! Yet you know my love is there and, it is real. My Son you feel or experience the sensation of my love for you, as I feel and experience the sensation of your love of me.

God Became Tangible: Incarnation

God you cannot see, touch, taste or smell, but one can experience God. But there is more. He gave us the Scriptures which tells us about himself; he sent his Son Jesus Christ to tell us about himself and who the Bible says is an image of God. Jesus said, “if you have seen me you have seen the Father” (John 14:7). What does the Bible tell us? It explains how God created us and the world. From the Bible, we learn about God, who he is, and how we can experience him.

God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son: nothing more real than that!
God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son: nothing more real than that!

Most of all the Word of God speaks of His love for us that He sent His son Jesus Christ to die for us. What is so amazing is that Jesus said “the Father and I are one” (John 10:30). Jesus himself confirms that God exists. Luke 1:30-32: The angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favor with God. “And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus. “He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David.

God Is Real: He Exists

As I looked up at the clouds which seem to float effortlessly by, I was reminded of this discussion between this mother and son. The fact that we cannot see the wind, on this day we could not feel the wind, but we could see the effects of the wind upon the clouds. I think there is a lesson here for all of us. Even though you may not feel or see God in the midst of your situation that does not mean that our Lord does not exist or he is not at work. As the clouds moved, I knew it was the wind moving the clouds although I could not feel it. Dear brothers and sisters, we believe so firmly in intangibles things no one has ever seen or touched.

We May Not Feel God in Our Situation But He is At Work!
We May Not Feel God in Our Situation But He is At Work!

We would not say they are unreal and do not exist. Take love or hate for example; we cannot touch them, see them nor taste them; yet wars are fought over them. All of what I am saying may seem quite simplistic to explain the reality of God. But the gist of the lesson in this although you may not see nor feel the wind it is there and at work. Although you may not see nor feel God in the midst of your situation, have faith to know that God exists and he is at work.

Abandoned Baby Found In A Manger

garlandBaby Finds Refuge In A Manger

Abandoned baby wrapped in a blue towel found lying in the manger! The manger was part of a large Nativity Set strategically positioned at the front of the sanctuary of a church in Queens, New York. The custodian said that he had just set up the Nativity Scene and, had gone to lunch. Upon his return, the once empty manger, not yet graced with the figurine of the baby Jesus, in that manger lay a live baby.

Baby Boy Found Lying In A manger
Baby Boy Found Lying In A manger

Because, the umbilical cord was still attached, the custodian realized that the child was a new born. The empty manger provided the perfect place for a desperate mother to leave a child for whom she could not care. It was a baby boy.

About two thousand years ago a manger once held a baby boy. About two thousand years ago, another mother having given birth sought in desperation for a safe place to lay her new born baby. This Child was the promised Messiah, who was Jesus Christ the Lord. Luke 2:6, 7 says,

“the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room for them in the Inn”.

The Manger Was the Warmest Place

Do you not find it amazing that, in this year of 2015, a mother sought out a church as the place to leave her new born and; she left him in a manger? At birth she held him to her breast, touched him, stared into his eyes and knew she needed to let him go. She loved her son, but could not care for him. A plan came to mind. Distressed she went to the “99 Cents” store to purchase a towel in which to wrap her baby.

As they members of the New York Police Department reviewed cameras in stores surrounding the church, they identified the “Manger Mom”. She cradled her baby close to her during the time she was in the store. The Guardian online news reported “that the mother, in this case, felt her newborn child would be found safely in the church and, chose to place the baby in the manger. It was the warmest place”. (http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2015/nov/26/baby-new-york-church-mother-charged-mange).The Manger mom said to reporters,

“I left my baby in the hands of God”.

Nothing else, in all the symbolisms that surround the Christmas season, epitomizes the persona of the Christ as does the manger. From a human point of view, the animal cradle represented the humility, desperation and hopelessness Joseph & Mary felt. They were at a lost as to what to do for their soon to be born son.

For The Desperate: The Manger Symbolizes Hope
For The Desperate: The Manger Symbolizes Hope

The Manger Represented Hope

Eyebrow Burners, spiritually that same cradle represented and represents hope, joy and calmness for the hopeless and the desperate. The Manger mom, who could not care for her child, chose to leave him in a safe place; she could not think of a better place than the manger in the sanctuary of the church. Later on, knowing that someone found her son lying in the manger, she left with a sense of hope, joy and calmness.

But there are those for whom Christmas is a painful time. For example, this mother who had to release the child she loves and for whom she could not care; the one for whom this is the first Christmas without a loved one due to death, divorce or broken relationships; those who may have lost their home or lost a job. But each one can bring that pain to the manger for the one born to us is our Savior Christ the Messiah. That one who once occupied that manger, occupies that manger no more. Having defeated sin death and the grave, He is now seated in heaven. As you think of what the manger represents, please remember what Christ did for us.

The Manger Is Empty

Abandoned Baby Rescued
Abandoned Baby Rescued

How did the story end for the baby abandoned in the manger of the Church?

The mother returned to the church next morning to make sure the baby had been found. Presently there are several families who submitted requests to adopt the baby boy.(http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2015/11/26/baby-manger-safe-haven-law/76409890/)

However for our Messiah, the original occupant of the manger, how did it end for Him?

For God so loved the worked that he gave his only Son so that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.(John 3:16) Christ died so that we could be reconciled and live eternally in heaven with our Creator. Two mothers two mangers, both used the manger in desperation one for the best opportunity for her son; the other for the best for all of mankind.

As you celebrate Christ-mas would you not stand in front of the manger or at least think of what the manger represents. Then please thank our God that He gave so that all who look to Him would find hope in times of desperation, forgiveness of sins and, peace of mind in moments of distress.

Eyebrow Burners please remember the holiness of the season and all our Lord has done for us. A famous Christmas hymn “Thou Didst Leave Thy Throne” captures the poignancy of the season;

“Thou didst leave thy throne and thy kingly crown,

when thou camest to earth for me;

but in Bethlehem’s home there was found no room for thy holy nativity.

When thou camest, O Lord, with the living word,

’twas to set all thy people free,

but with mocking scorn and with crown of thorn,

then we bore thee to Calvary”.

Eyebrow Burners, Blessed and Holy Christmas

Do Not Despise Small Things or Insignificant People

Matthew 13:32
Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows,
it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the
birds come and perch in its branches.

Do Not Despise Small Things

Do not despise the small things. Eyebrow burners, we do tend to look for the big splash, or for the big, mighty-moving miracles of Lord. But more often than not, our Lord tends to use small items to bring his blessings into our lives. Do you not realize that God may have chosen to use the petty, the trivial, or the very insignificant which you may consider to be of no value? Believer, do you not realize that that person maybe God’s conduit to share his blessing with you? Please do not despise the small and insignificant people, things or situations around you.

One day I saw a tow truck broken down at the roadside. I was very curious to see what vehicle does one use to pull a tow truck. To my surprise, the vehicle used was almost half the size of the tow truck!

The Smaller Rescued the Greater
The Smaller Rescued the Greater

The operator first placed the Tow Truck in neutral gear, then positioned the front wheel on a lift and rolled the tow truck away. Although the Tow Truck obviously had had more power and tonnage than other vehicle, yet in a time of brokenness it was the smaller that rescued the greater.

Eyebrow burner, Our Lord Christ did not despise trivial things. He instead rejected the chance to rule the world (Matthew 4:7-10) and, refused the people’s call to make him an earthly king (John 6:15). He chose the small thing; Christ chose the Cross. Eyebrow Burner, please do not despise the small things!

This Note From a Child Moved Me to Tears
This Note From a Child Moved Me to Tears

A few months ago, I had preached a sermon entitled “Blessed to be the Best.” Weeks later, a sister at church placed in my hand an offering envelope, upon which someone had written a personal note to me. Tears came to my eyes when I read the note. The message was from a child, a young girl of about 7- 8 years of age. The kind words that child wrote about me caused the tears to flow. What amazed and touched me was the fact that she clearly understood the sermon I had preached that she used the points of the message to in turn encourage me. If an adult had said the words to me, it would not have had the powerful mind blowing effect. Our Father often seems to use the small, the insignificant, and the overlooked to bring about his biggest blessing and provide the greatest help. Do not despise small things

The Apostle Paul, at the time of the writing of 1 and 2 Timothy, he was imprisoned in a dungeon; this Father of the church sensed the end of his life that his execution was close at hand (NIV Notes). This elderly statesman of the

Apostle Paul, Elder Statesman of the Faith, Needed Timothy
Apostle Paul, Elder Statesman of the Faith, Needed Timothy

early church, this warrior for the faith, this one who stood strong in the face persecution, this soldier of the Gospel, at his lowest point, called out for help. The Apostle did not summon one of powerhouse leaders of the early church but for one who at that time would have been considered to be a youth of no significance.Paul called for Timothy, a young man of about 20 years old. Paul did not despise the small things.

What about us? That overlooked nobody who may not be of your socioeconomic class or race in your mind they would, therefore, be of “small value”. But wait Eyebrow burner, that very one maybe the one into whose hands God has deposited your blessing. What about that job or position our Lord has placed before you? That profession may not amount to much in your eyes or in the eyes of another, but that maybe that small door which will lead to a bigger one. The small things at times God uses to move the blockages in our lives so that the greater may come. Do not despise the small things.

dog-door-1 dog-door-2

Of course, if the great, the big or the stupendous comes and, it is of God, go for it! Our problem as believers is that we tend to think it is only the huge and enormous which speak of the blessing of God in the life of a believer. No Saint of God, at times our Lord does use the small, the insignificant and the obscure. But when he touches the small, the insignificant and the obscure, all become great! I charge you, with all that is within me, do not despise the small things for therein may very well be your God ordained blessing!

Our God Sits High…But He Hugs Low!

Psalm 138:2
I will bow down toward your holy temple and
will praise your name for your unfailing love and your faithfulness.

Psalm 34:15
“The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous,
and his ears are attentive to their cry.

Man Can Sit High But His View is Finite

Looking out the Window Mountains looked like Bumps up the Land

Our God sits high but hugs low. Some believers say, God is far yet he is near; God seems beyond reach yet he is within reach; our God is transcendent (far off) yet he is immanent (close as my breath). Recently I sat on a plane as it traveled to California. Having completed work on my laptop, I gazed out the window. It was a clear, sunny, cloudless day. From my eagles view in the belly of the plane, I looked out the window and all at once in one glance I saw thousands of miles of the landscape below. Mountains looked like tiny bumps; rivers and highways looked like bits of thread winding through the bumps that were mountains. If there were buildings of whatever height and width, if there were boats on the rivers or cars on the road if whatever size, all were too minute to be discerned with the human eye. I thought with excitement what a view!

The Most High God: His View is Infiniti: Ad Inifinitum

God sees Ad Ifinitum

my restricted view when I sat high, I saw for thousands of miles. However when I walked low, my eyes saw only a few feet. If with my limited view, limited mind, and limited abilities I could have seen all of this at one glance, then what about my God, the creator of this world; the one who created me. He who sits high in the heavens, He sees not just a thousand miles at once with one glance, but he always sees the whole universe “ad infinitum” or all at once. Earth, Mars, Saturn and all other planets moving in their differing orbits, Sun, Moon and Stars traveling in their various galaxies, they are at all times simultaneously within in his view. He sits high in the heavens, and he knows all “ad infinitum” or continuously.

The Most High God Walks Low: His view is still Infinite

This one, who sits high, He walks and looks low. What does this mean? It means that He sees in the same manner as one who walks down below, who walks upon the ground. While in this self-same situation, at one glance, I can see only a few feet in front of me, and can only then perceive the true size and minute detail of things that dot my surroundings. But our awesome God, he sees the whole earth as it is without limit or hindrance, he sees space ad infinitum. He is a Creator, he is Holy, He is Adoni (Lord), He is Elohim (Creator and Judge), He is El Elyon (God Most High) but he is also Jehovah Shammah the one who is there or who is near to us.This Holy one, this one who is high and lifted up, this one who sees galaxies as they swirl by and calls the earth his footstool (Isaiah 66:1), he is near. He sees the minuscule details of our lives and even the number of hairs on our head (Matthew 10:30). Our God knows the beginning from the end; he knows our past, present future all at once; and he knows all that impacted, impacts and will impact our life. My God knows my joys; my God knows my pain; he knows my friends and hidden enemies; he sees who will encourage, and who will sabotage. He who sits high, looks low to see, to watch and, to protect his children.

The Lord sits High and looks Low

Psalm 34 verse 15 says “The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are attentive to their cry.”
Psalm 56: 8 tells us that “You number my wanderings; put my tears into Your bottle; are they not in Your book?
Psalm 139:3 You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.
Psalm 139:16 Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.

God Most High Sits High and Hugs Low

Our Lord Hugs Low

All of these verses speak of the Most High God, the one who sits high in heaven. He not only looks low into our lives, he also hugs low. He is attentive to our every cry; he takes our tears and hide them in a bottle; he knows when we lie down; he knows when we go out; and he knew us while we were formed in our Mother’s womb. Oh! Eyebrow Burner, the one before whose throne the Angels cry “Holy, Holy, Holy”, he will come low to wipe our noses as we weep. The Most High God said, “I have loved you, my people, with an everlasting love. With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself” (Jeremiah 33:3B). Followers of Jesus Christ, our God, is far yet he is near; God seems beyond our each yet he is within reach; our God is transcendent yet he is immanent. Our Lord God sits High, and He hugs low. Be encouraged today!

Put Your Foot in the Jordan Already: Take a Risk!

“Tell the priests who carry the ark of the covenant: ‘When you reach the edge of the Jordan’s waters, go and stand in the river.‘” (Joshua 3:8)

Elderly, bedridden, living in a nursing home, cheated out of his money by a landlord and more, so went the phone call that came into the DBM office. Intense prayer went up for this man of God who was so grossly taken advantage of while he was most vulnerable. Three weeks later, to our surprise, in the mail came a gift of $10.00 from this very person. He wrote, “I am bedridden, and I cannot give much, but I can give something. God uses your radio program Pursuing God to encourage me in the midst of my illness and discouragement.”  Amazingly enough, God used this man who was encouraged by our Radio Program to in turn encourage us. His simple gift pushed us to keep on taking faith-filled risks by taking the Gospel to the world through the word through our radio program.

The Jordan at flood
The Jordan at rest

Just at that moment, our Lord reminded me of Joshua 3: 15-17. These verses speak of priests who walked into the raging Jordan in full obedience to God’s command, and to fulfill Israel’s destiny to enter the Promised Land. These spiritual leaders knew that either God would have had to make a way for them to cross the raging Jordan or, they would die. The priests trusted God; took a faith-filled-risk; stepped into the water; then God parted the Jordan. Our Lord then said to me “Child you are at your raging Jordan decide what will you do?

DBM Stepped Into Our Jordan

With the ten-dollar-encouragement in hand, we stepped into the Jordan deter-mined to take “the Gospel to the World through the Word” via radio. Our funds,

We decided to keep the radio program!

our financial challenges did not improve, until months later. Eyebrow Burners, our God was testing us to discern if we would remain faithful to our commitment to the ministry via radio. We did not turn back; we kept our eyes on the Lord; we kept our feet in the Jordan, and we forged ahead. Come hell or high water, we resolved we would not turn back. Months passed nothing changed. Then one day a sister in Christ sent a gift of $1,000 ear-marked specifically for the radio program; after that other gifts to the ministry started arriving in the mail and via PayPal. Look at God!

Follower of Jesus Christ, every penny given or sent to do the work of the Lord is like mint-gold in the ministry of proclaiming the Gospel of the Kingdom. Mark 6:41 says that one day over 5,000 persons were hungry and without food, but there was a boy with 5 loaves and two fish. Our Lord and Christ took that crumb of a meal blessed it and, then fed a hungry multitude of over 5,000 men, women, and children.

One Small Meal Blessed Thousand

That lunch the boy gave became much in the master’s hand. In 1 Chronicles 29, we read that the people of Israel gave thousands of pounds of gold and silver for the building of God’s Temple. When it was all over scripture said that King David and the people rejoiced greatly! Your giving small or great advances the work of our Lord and at the same time destroys the work of Satan. Into whatever ministry our Lord has led you to give; keep on giving. Every penny helps!

Crawl If You Have To . . . But Do Not Quit!

Dear Eyebrow Burners,

It is God who arms me with strength:
and makes my way perfect
(Psalm 18:32)

She Did Not Quit: She Crawled

She Won The Race In Third Place http://www.newser.com/story/202841/marathon-runner-crawls-to-finish-as-body-gives-out.html
She Won The Race In Third Place

Crawl if you have to but do not quit. With a slow but determined drag she lifted her rear-end into the air; with her head still rather low to the ground, she pushed past the cry of her body to remain defeated in collapse mode. She refused the wheelchair the medical team offered her, but instead she crawled the 50 meters to her “own” personal victory. Suddenly screams and cheers erupted from the crowd not for the one in first-place but for Hyvon the one who defeated the driving cry of her body to quit. Ngetich was third in place but in reality she won the race. Crawl if you have to but do not quit.

The Boy Who Refused to Quit Became King

David once said God delivered me from the Lion and the Bear Saul and David by Guercino
David once said God delivered me from the Lion and the Bear
Saul and David by Guercino

The Old Testament Scripture 1 Samuel tells us about King Saul’s efforts to kill David the Shepherd Boy, the one whom God anointed to be Saul’s successor. Despite Saul’s psychotic attempts as he hunted down David, and despite the gripping fear David had as he fled Saul, the despot, David knew that it was in God alone he found the drive to keep going. In Psalm 18 verse 32 he wrote that it was God who armed him with strength and made his way perfect. David recognized that he was no match for the position, power, and prowess of King Saul. Militarily, David was out-numbered; out-powered and out- equipped. Nevertheless, David knew that that the same God who delivered him from the Lion and the bear (1 Samuel 17:37); the same God who gave him victory over Goliath (1 Samuel 17); the same God who through whom he conquered his tens of thousands (1 Samuel 18: 6, 7) was the same God who would deliver him from psychotic murderous Saul.

Do Not Quit Call On Jesus

Eyebrow Burners there are times you will have to wait upon the Lord to renew your strength. When you do, He will fill you to walk, to run and to not give in (Isaiah 40:31). He will enable you to be strong and courageous and not be afraid (Deut. 31:6). Please remember that The LORD is your strength and your shield . . . He will help you (Psalm 28:7).Believer all may not have the inner determined drive of a Ngetich, but we do have that all-surpassing power of Jesus Christ within us. The ICB version of the scriptures says of 1 John 4:4 “My dear children, you belong to God. So you have defeated them because God’s Spirit, who is in you, is greater than the devil, which is in the world”. Of course, there are times you want to throw up your hands and give up. But I am here today to tell you, if you have to crawl through

Fight on your knees, but DO NOT QUIT! https://jasonbybee.files.wordpress.com/2013/01/blog-praying-man.png
Fight on your knees, but DO NOT QUIT!

the problem; If you have to creep through the hell you are going through; if you have to drag your reluctant body, mind and spirit to the very end; then do it! How can you do it? Call upon Jesus for Philippians 4:13 says “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!” Eyebrow Burner, you call upon Jesus! Crawl if you have to, but do not quit!

Crawl If You Have to but Do not Quit

Get up and fight, crawl and fight, creep and fight, drag your discouraged self to the bitter end and fight! You fight not in your strength but, in the strength of our Lord and Christ.

David ran from Saul, but he never gave up the idea that one day he would be king. In the course of time, David did become King while disobedient Saul killed himself. Believer, crawl if you have to but do not quit; God will deliver.

“So you have defeated them because God’s Spirit, who is in you, is greater than the devil, which is in the world”. (1 John 4:4)

May 11 (Mother’s Day):-Sermon Preached: A Mother’s Powerful Influence. (Acts 15:36-41; Acts 16:1-3)  This message showed the powerful influence a mother has in shaping the future of her children if not the nation. There is a proverb which says the hand that rocks the cradle rules the world. A story is told of a dog which was lame in its hind legs. Therefore as she walked she would drag and pull her hind legs. She had puppies. Although they had perfectly good well formed legs with strong muscles, as they grew they also dragged and pulled their hind legs as their mother did- A mother’s powerful influence. Acts 16 showed that Timothy’s strong faith was not shaped by his Father but by his mother and Grandmother. A mother’s powerful influence shaped his faith.

June 15 (Father’s Day):-Sermon Preached: Not At My Gate (2 Chronicles 26:12-19; Nehemiah 11:19)  This was a topical Sermon to show that men are called to be the Gatekeepers of the family if not the nation. In the bible Gatekeepers were the ones who monitored entrance to a place; were the spiritual overseers of the Temple; guards or watchmen of the town or city. Fathers are called to be protectors at the gate of their families; they are to monitor who has access to their wives, children, themselves and their homes; they are the spiritual oversees of the family and should take the lead in the spiritual teaching and guidance of the family; they are the guards of the civil rights of the members of the family.Through the sermon, men were called to remember their responsibility to their children, whether the children are in their household, being raised by the baby’s mother or by a step-father. They, as fathers are the protective guard not only against a decadent society, jealous friends but also against Satan himself. He is the gatekeeper and nothing should reach his family except through him. He has the power, the right and authority to declare even to Satan not at my gate! Listen, the hand that rocks the cradle rules the world, but someone has to protect the hand that rocks the cradle.

May 25: Cranford Alliance Church (Cranford, NJ): Sermon Preached: God Is Here (Psalm 121)

Pastor Tom Rice and Elders of Cranford Alliance Church
Pastor Tom Rice and Elders of Cranford Alliance Church

This Psalm tells us that our God watches over our very move. He does so to protect us from harm of every kind. Not even the light of the moon (verse 6) would our Lord allow to harm us. He who watches your every move he does so to love you, protect you, guard you, defend you, shield you, cover you, hold you, fight for you, keep you, assure you. This one keeps vigil over you; this one does not doze off or go into a deep sleep. He is the one who created the highest heavens, the earth and all that is upon the earth. He who is our helper he is our creator and He is always here!

June 8: Clarendon Road Church 6.30 pm Evening Service (Brooklyn, NY):Sermon Preached:

The Power of God’s Presence (1 Samuel 4&5). The people of Israel had gone to war against the Philistines. The enemy soundly defeated them. Later they went again into war.. This time they took the Ark of the covenant into war in hopes that that would move God to give them victory. They were again soundly defeated. They lost the war and the Ark was taken captive. Israel was disobedient, yet God fought for them and defeated the enemy in their own land. The Saints learnt that even in our disobedience, God will fight for his us and may work behind the scenes, to bring us victory.

June 22; Clarendon Road Church 8.30 am Service (Brooklyn NY) :

Sermon to be Preached was: Are You In (Matthew 7:21-23). This message was to be strongly evangelistic in nature. To evangelize the church goers who have attended church for some time if not all of their lives but had not yet taken Christ as their Savior. As I wrestled with this message the Lord would not allow me to go any further in the writing of the sermon. Instead he said that the message for this group on this particular Sunday morning has to be a different one. There are those who are struggling and they need a message which would challenge yet comfort them to know that he is here to deliver and protect. The Message he led me back to one preached in 2011. I did not even remember this message but our God did. To a person like me these changes can be nerve wrecking. but I have learned to obey his every command.

The message preached was VICTORY WITHOUT WEAPONS (2 Chronicles 20:1-30):- The conclusion of this message stated there are situations we are in for which we do not have the strength, power, or know how for the battle which confronts us. We may say we have had enough, or we are just tired of it all. But like Jehoshaphat, we ought to get on our knees cry out to the Lord, remind God of his promises, tell him of your inability to cope, and call out for help. Then watch HIM work to bring you victory without lifting a weapon. Why would he do this for you? He will, because He knows you are too beaten down to fight! Almost everyone who was there stood for prayer in response to the message. At the end of the service a woman thanked me for obeying God by changing the sermon. She said it was just what she needed.

June 28, 29: Lighthouse Alliance Church (Tuckerton, NJ) Women’s Meeting: God’s Heart for Me

The aim of this message was to show these women the depth of God’s love for his daughters. They learned that there is nothing we could ever do to stop God from loving us. I reminded the women that there has never been a second, a minute, hour, a day a year when God has NEVER loved us. They learned that although God was wronged he loved us. (Genesis 2:15; Genesis 3; 1 John 2:16). Although wronged God took our punishment (Genesis 3:15; 1 Peter 2:24). Although wronged he longs to embrace us (Revelation 21:1-5)

June 29: Lighthouse Alliance Church (Tuckerton, NJ) Sunday Morning Service

Sermon preached was “God is Our Strength In Times of Trouble (Acts 23:11). This message was a reminder to all of us that trouble does not last always. In all that the Apostle Paul suffered, in this life, he did not gain much in the way of reward. Paul’s troubles arose because he was chosen by God to take the Gospel to the gentile world. In the midst of one of his difficult time, one night, Jesus stood near Paul. Our Lord then encouraged his servant to continue on in a work which many would have called a failure. In Acts 23:11 it says, “The Lord stood near Paul and said, “Take courage! As you have testified about me in Jerusalem, so you must also testify in Rome.” That night the presence of God strengthened the despondent Paul and equipped him for the task ahead. Paul made it to Rome and there in Rome success came.

July 12: Alliance Theological Seminary: Women in Urban Ministry Presentation (Brooklyn, NY)

Rev. Dr. Barbara Austin Lucas Professor of Religious Education (Alliance Theological Seminary)
Rev. Dr. Barbara Austin Lucas Professor of Religious Education (Alliance Theological Seminary)

Dr. Barbara Austin-Lucas brought her seminary class Women in Urban Ministry for a site visit to Brooklyn, NY. A PowerPoint presentation was prepared to highlight my journey from childhood to the present. The presentation showed how our Lord uses hobbies and personal interest in ministry and in the advancement of his kingdom. Another aspect of the presentation spoke toward the positive and negative impact families could possibly have upon the way in which we minister. The session closed with a discussion concerning the importance of women ministers in the church. At this point, Pastor Charles Galbreath (Sr. Pastor-Clarendon Road Church) joined the dialogue. He led us in a rigorous time of discussion followed by a question and answer session.

July 20: Long Island Alliance Church (Dix Hills, NY) Sermon preached was “Crushed But Not Destroyed” (2 Corinthians 4:8)

Sr. Pastor Al & Mrs. Laurie Warren & Pastor Peter Lung

The aim of this message was to encourage the Saints of God. The apostle Paul in this pericope of Scripture wanted the believers to understand that in the midst of their troubles they were not without a defense, they were not helpless. That the power of God was available to them at all times through the indwelling overcasting, dynamite, un-crushable, power of the Holy Spirit. Although at times, we as believers may feel crushed and discouraged we are not destroyed. You see the awesome power of the Spirit is the counteracting force within us which keeps us from collapsing under the immensity of our troubles. We can indeed hold up because He is our defense. But when believers dabble with sin it quenches the operational power of the Holy Spirit and leaves us open to be crushed. But we can recover when we repent. Sad to say this power is not available to the non-believers.

July 27: Bedford Community Church (Bedford Hills, NY) “Crushed But Not Destroyed” (2 Corinthians 4:8)

Rev. Kelvin Walker (Sr. Pastor) & Mrs. Donnie Walker
Rev. Kelvin Walker (Sr. Pastor) & Mrs. Donnie Walker

This message was preached again. When the altar call was given 5 men and women came forward to take Christ as Savior. After this our Lord through His Holy Spirit moved powerfully upon his people. At the second call, about half of the congregation came forward to cry out to the Lord to seek him for a new moving of the Spirit; to repent of things which quenched the indwelling overcasting, dynamite, un-crushable, power of the Holy Spirit from operating in their lives. Our Lord moved powerfully in this place; as he called his sons and daughters to yield to him in a new commitment to intimacy.

God is Power

Once God has spoken; twice I have heard this:
that power belongs to our God
(Psalm 62:11)

God is Power

God is power. We as Christians tend to forget this fact about the God we serve: Our God is power absolute! Everything in this universe is under his total power and authority. During one of my morning walks, I noticed a small, weak shoot which had pushed its way up and through a concrete sidewalk. Not a tree or shrub was nearby but only this tiny spurt which had ruptured the hard surface. It was not the root of a tree or anything else which had done this work; the shoot had done it all on its own!

Nature Shows Forth His Power

A Tender Shoot Ruptures Concrete
A Tender Shoot Ruptures Concrete

How is it that such a small, weak thing, which a toddler could uproot with one hand, can rupture something that takes a muscled man using a power drill to break? Because our God had infused plants with the unique power, a small shoot can indeed break concrete. From the youngest shoot to the oldest tree all plants have Sclerenchyma cells or tissues. These are dead, dense, tightly-packed, protective and supportive cells that are quite strong, durable and hard. It is a type of plant tissue that makes up the hardness of the seed of a date, the pit of a peach or the shell of a walnut. This dense harden tissue which exists in plants, these cells activate and go to work whenever they come against any resistance. An immeasurable power is exerted as the plant shoot endeavors to rupture and break apart any resistance even hardened concrete.*

The Awful Power of God

I said to myself, if there is so much power in a little, weak, shoot, then what about the immeasurable power of our God himself. The one who created the world; it was he placed such power in a sapling. And if he is the source of all power, just imagine the full extent of his power: Our God is omnipotent. Oh Lord Jesus, help us! His power is awful (full of awe); His power is awesome, His power is unlimited; His power is electrifying; His power is terrible; His power is holy; His power is absolute; His power is mighty; His power is glorious; His power is majestic. That is the power of our God. That is our God!

God's Power is Awful - Full of Awe
God’s Power is Awful – Full of Awe

God Hath Given Us Power – Use It!

Allow me to use this analogy to encourage all of us. If the Lord has placed this kind of power within plants that can rip apart concrete, and if when we come to Christ the Holy Spirit indwells us, then greater power is available to us as believers. The scripture says to us in 1 John 4:4b “… the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world”. 2 Timothy 1:7 says, “for God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” This power of God is not only available to us, but it is within us; this power resides within us through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

Oftentimes believers feel helpless and powerless. Some if they would dare admit, they believe that their problem is beyond the power of God. Eyebrow Burners, our lack of confidence in God’s power, may be due to the fact that we may feel defeated. We lack confidence in God because we may feel weak, impotent, troubled and stressed. We lack confidence in God because sin, tiredness, spiritual dryness and spiritual sluggishness may plague our lives. Whatever the cause may be, many of us have lost that unshakable confidence in God’s power to do and some may never have had that confidence in the first place. Well this message is for you. God is power. He has the power to meet every situation you are facing; to defeat every foe who rises up against you, to break down every stronghold that has its grips in your life; he will remove every demon that has risen up against you and trouble those who trouble you. That is the power of our God.

Get into Prayer Tap Into The Power of God

I Can Do All Things – He Strengthens Me!

The shoot when it came against concrete, it dug within itself called up the Sclerenchyma cells or tissue and busted through that hard impenetrable blockage. I am sure lack of confidence in God’s power did not happen overnight. However, that shoot knew that within itself, it had all that it needed to conquer that solid, impassable obstacle eventually. You Saints of God, you followers of Jesus Christ you have within you all that you need, to bust through the problem, to defeat every feeling of defeat, to rebuke every semblance of fear; to make it through the dry spiritual times and the spiritual wilderness, or whatever you are going through. Do you know why you can do it? You can do it because Philippians 4:13 says “I can do all thing through Christ which strengthens me”. It is not in your strength you will do it, but through the power of the Spirit of God that resides within you.

Get yourself out of the way; get into prayer, and let God work through you! Greater is he (the Holy Spirit) that is within us than he that is in the world. Remember Saints nothing is impossible with our God. You are not fighting on your own but with and through the awesome, terrible power of our Lord. Our God is power! His power is awful (full of awe), His power is awesome, His power is unlimited; His power is electrifying; His power is terrible; His power is holy; His power is absolute; His power is riveting; His power is mighty, His power is glorious, His power is majestic, His power is enthralling, His power is gripping ; His power is mesmerizing; His power is overwhelming; His power is breathtaking; His power is remarkable; His power is astounding; His power is astonishing; His power is never ending. That is the power of the God we serve. That is our God!
